Our mission
TechGuard Picks publishes independent reviews of VPNs, password managers, web hosting providers, and other privacy and security tools. Every guide is written to answer one practical question: which product is the right fit for which kind of person? We don't hand out generic top-10 lists. We pick the right tool for the use case, name it, and explain why.
How we review products
Each product we recommend goes through the same evaluation:
- Hands-on testing. We install the product, configure it the way a real user would, and exercise the core features.
- Security posture review. We read public security audits, breach history, and architecture documentation. Zero-knowledge claims, encryption details, and jurisdiction matter.
- Honest trade-offs. Every recommendation lists at least one real weakness. If a product isn't right for a use case, we say so.
- Price-to-value check. We compare list prices, renewal pricing, and feature parity at each tier.

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy a product through one of them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That commission keeps the site running, but it does not determine who we recommend.
We recommend products based on testing and research — never because a vendor pays a higher commission. Our top picks routinely include products that pay us less than competitors, when those are the right tools for the job.
Editorial independence
No vendor sees our reviews before they publish. We don't accept paid placements, "sponsored" picks, or guest posts. Vendors cannot pay to be added to a guide or to alter their ranking.
Corrections
If you spot a factual error — pricing change, feature shift, or anything that's gone out of date — please reach out and we'll fix it. We track update history on every guide and re-test products at least once a year.
